Job Description: Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Associate Director, Business Development for the Los Angeles location. The Business Development group at eLabs is responsible for Universal Music Group’s global strategy and business development in the digital music space. This position is responsible for analyzing and developing new business opportunities and managing distributor relationships. Primary Responsibilities: • Identify strategic and tactical opportunities and risks for UMG and its label groups in emerging technology areas, with a specific focus on mobile, online, video and emerging technologies. • Analyze and assess the economics of new business models, new markets and products and pending deals. Perform industry and market research for deal evaluation and strategy. • Prepare and deliver presentations, deal memos and reports to communicate status of projects, sales, and marketing efforts to key internal personnel. • Negotiate deals with online retailers, wireless carriers, digital content aggregators, application developers, and infrastructure providers to grow UMG’s digital content business. Interface with business and legal affairs to manage deal negotiation through execution. • Manage projects through implementation, from launch to on-going tasks such as data reporting, accounting, q/a, and coordination of special marketing initiatives. • Aggressively pursue marketing and promotional opportunities for UMG label groups using new technology and other emerging media. Interface with label groups to facilitate such marketing and promotions for specific artists and album releases. Job Requirements: Skills and Requirements: • BS/BA from a major university. Technical/business backgrounds a plus. MBA or JD preferred. • Three to four years of work experience. Ideal prior work experience in digital business development; corporate development for a media company: management consulting; investment banking or other quantitative financial background. .Additional experience in the entertainment and/or internet industry preferred. • Expertise in all major Microsoft Office tools. Must be advanced Excel and Powerpoint user. • Must be able to develop Powerpoint presentations that convey complex issues clearly and concisely. • Strong analytical and financial skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment. • Excellent communication skills. • Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities. Must be able to work under time constraints. • Should have some personal interest in music and good knowledge of the digital music “space”.
