Job Description: Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Media Planner for the Universal City, location. BASIC FUNCTION: Oversee and manage multiple projects on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis, including researching and implementing customized TV, digital, Print, Outdoor and Radio advertising campaigns that serve to market product and build mass consumer/audience awareness of artists for the UMG group of labels and divisions. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Research, develop and implement Online, TV, print, radio, and outdoor media campaigns for the Universal Music Group labels. Follow-through of insertion order process including space or spot reservations, ad or spot placement, material requirements and creative deadlines • Time spent: 60%. Research potential new outlets for media campaigns across all media and meet with companies to determine appropriateness for UMG campaigns. • Time spent: 20% Negotiate rates across multiple mediums on behalf of all UMG labels to maintain uniform frequency structures as well as volume discounts. Update and maintain consumer magazine database that provides research and rate information to assist advertising staff. • Time spent : 10% Track and analyze advertising. • Time spent 05% Coordinate added-value programs with media partners to augment and enhance media campaigns. • Time spent: 05% ACCOUNTABILITY: Timely development of media plans utilizing all appropriate media in accordance with label marketing objectives and target audience. Secure all marketing and financial approvals prior to booking any media. Act as liaison to make sure all creative specs and deadlines are met. RESPONSIBILITY: Report to Senior Director of Media planning. Failure to perform planning and buying functions effectively would have serious repercussions in the marketing, creative and production areas, such as missing media deadlines, incurring overtime and/or unnecessary production charges by supplying incorrect traffic information and damaging internal and external advertising relationships. Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: College degree with minimum 3 years experience in related field preferred. Media experience (i.e., buying/selling ad space); knowledge and fluency in demographic trends; understanding of media production terms and specifications; traffic and invoicing procedures preferred. Online media experience a must. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work well with many types of personalities, corporate divisions and company/industry types. Ability to handle multiple projects at a time. Proficient in MS Office.. CONTACTS: Internal: Daily interaction with Advertising staff on progress of above out-lined responsibilities in addition to generating appropriate departmental reports. Daily communications with labels’ Marketing, New-Media and Creative Services staff to ensure correct advertising production and ad trafficking. Work with and report directly to Sr. Director and manager on status. Cultivate and maintain relationships with label marketing, new-media, sales/promotion and publicity departments in developing customized advertising campaigns as well as maintaining on-going reciprocal updates. External: Media Representatives – Constant communications with consumer publications, TV stations, web-sites and agencies to obtain information, book-advertising space, negotiate rates/positioning. Initiate invoicing process as well as updating marketing and advertising departments on ongoing projects and available promotion opportunities.
